Years 10 and 11·Schemes of work

GCSE Schemes of Work (SOW)

For heads of department and Key Stage 4 leads

The two GCSE years, planned as one course. A scheme of work for Year 10 and for Year 11 in each subject below, 51 to 90 pages a book, £5.99 each, or £9.99 for both years of one course together (in science, biology, chemistry and physics are each a course). The first eight pages of every book open on its own page, so a real unit can be read before anything is bought.

Board-neutral, with one exception. Every unit maps to the Department for Education’s GCSE subject content, which AQA, OCR, Pearson Edexcel and WJEC Eduqas each have to cover however they order or label it — so a change of board does not mean a change of scheme. History is the exception: it is written lesson by lesson against AQA 8145.

Most departments just call it a SOW, and most staffrooms say “GCSE maths”, “GCSE Art” and “GCSE PE” rather than the full qualification name.

Questions

  1. Which exam board are the GCSE schemes of work written for?

Most are board-neutral. The content of a GCSE course is set by the Department for Education’s subject content, which every board’s specification has to cover, so a year sequenced against that content works whichever board a department teaches. Where a book is written to one specification instead, its own page says so.

  2. Do I need both the Year 10 and the Year 11 book?

They are separate books because they are separate years of teaching, and either works on its own. The pair is offered together at a set price for a department planning the whole course at once.

  3. What is in a GCSE scheme of work?

A full year for one year group: every unit in teaching order, what each one covers and roughly how long it runs. The first eight pages of every book open on its own page, so a real unit can be read before anything is bought.

  4. What format do I get?

A PDF, typeset for A4 and ready to print. It downloads immediately after payment, and the link stays valid so you can come back to it.

  5. Can I share it with my department?

Yes. Every resource is free to reproduce inside the school that buys it. Print it, copy it, hand it round a department. The licence covers one school.

  6. Can I see it before I buy?

Yes. The opening pages of every paid title are readable in the browser, free and without signing up. The behaviour playbook is free in full for a name and an email.

  7. Is it a subscription?

No. One payment, and the file is yours. There is nothing to cancel.

  8. What if it is not what I expected?

If the file is broken, wrong, or never arrived, you get a refund. Email info@empowereducators.co.uk with the title and roughly when you bought it.
