Year 11 English
Scheme of Work

Fifty-five pages for the second GCSE year, which begins from an honest fact: Year 10 taught the whole course. One unit covers the single requirement that cannot be pre-taught — unseen texts — and the rest map a writing progression, reorganise four set texts by idea, teach reading against a clock, and plan the revision term from evidence rather than from a topic list.

  1. 1aUnseen Poetry, and Reading Without Preparation
  2. 1bWriting: Accuracy, Sustained Composition and the Twenty Per Cent
  3. 2aThe Four Set Texts, Deepened
  4. 2bReading Under Time: Both Language Papers
  5. 3aRevision by Diagnosis
  6. 3bExamination Technique and the Final Fortnight

Cover of Year 11 English Scheme of Work

Ten sections per unit, in the same order every time. New teaching finishes at Easter, because the examinations arrive in the middle of the summer term.

Every unit carries three responses to one question at different bands, with a note naming what actually moves an answer from one to the next. English is marked holistically, and that step is the hardest thing in the subject to explain in words.

The last two units are revision — planned properly, from banded evidence, rather than left as a gap in the calendar.
