GCSE Psychology: how each board marks it

AQA · Pearson Edexcel · OCR. A separate book for each

The assessment objectives below are worded almost identically whichever board you teach. What differs is the weight each one carries, and that is what decides where a department spends its time. Each book quotes its own board’s specification word for word, and the first 8 pages of each are open to read here.

AQA 8182. Two papers, 1 hour 45 minutes each, 100 marks each, 50% each. AQA, like OCR, has no optional content at all — every topic is compulsory, and the choice the Department leaves open has already been made for you. Only Pearson Edexcel leaves it to the school.

Pearson Edexcel 1PS0. Two unequal papers — 1h45/98 marks/55% and 1h20/79 marks/45% — and the only one of the three boards that leaves the Department's optional-topic choice genuinely open: all five named topics appear as live sections of Paper 2, and a department picks which two it teaches.

OCR GCSE Psychology Assessment Objectives — Exam Preparation

OCR J203. Two components, 1 hour 30 minutes each, 90 marks each, 50% each — and the only board of the three to publish its AO weightings as ranges (33–37% / 33–37% / 28–32%) rather than exact figures. The brain and neuropsychology has no section of its own on either component; OCR embeds it inside the other topics and examines it there.
