A single A4 page, landscape so it lies open beside an exercise book, on one topic rather than one unit. Each sheet leads with its images: a sourced photograph, a figure drawn for the page, a verified extract. It then explains them, which is the difference between a mat and an organiser turned on its side: the picture is the entry point, not the heading.
Working, not revising. Every sheet carries the same working parts. The one idea the topic turns on, a worked exam-style answer, the vocabulary to cover and self-quiz, three tasks answerable from the sheet alone, and the misconceptions that cost marks.
Every claim is sourced to the DfE’s own subject content, so the sheets are board-neutral by construction. Every photograph is real and cleared: verified against its own licence template rather than a label, public domain worldwide or licensed CC BY. Every diagram is drawn in code for the sheet. Nothing is AI-generated.

Questions
How is a knowledge mat different from a knowledge organiser?
Shape, and when it is used. An organiser is portrait, sold by key stage, one sheet per unit, and revised from after the teaching. A knowledge mat is one landscape A4 page on one topic, led by its images instead of its headings: a sourced photograph, a figure drawn for the page, a verified extract. It is meant to be on the desk while the work is happening. Departments that buy both use them at opposite ends of a unit.
Where do the images come from, and can I photocopy the sheet?
Yes. Photocopy it for your classes freely. Most photographs are archival or scientific images, checked against their own licence template and not a label: public domain worldwide or licensed CC BY, which permits commercial and classroom use. A few are modern sports photography, where no archive holds one. Those come from a royalty-free library whose licence permits commercial use with no share-alike, and the foot names the photographer and the licence in the same way. Every diagram is drawn in code for the sheet, and every extract is written for it or verified against a public-domain text, so nothing on a sheet is licensed from anybody who has not permitted it. The running foot names every creator, states that the images have been cropped and adjusted for print, and links the licence. That foot is what keeps the sheet compliant, so keep it on the page when you print.
Are any of the images AI-generated?
None. Not one person, place or event on these sheets is an AI image, and nothing is a drawn substitute where a genuine photograph exists. That was the point of building them. Where a mechanism is clearer as a diagram than as a photograph, it is drawn, and the sheet says so.
Which exam board is this for?
All of them. Every sheet is anchored to the Department for Education’s own GCSE subject content, the document every awarding body’s specification is built on, and the running foot names it. The content is the same whichever board a department follows. The geography sheets also name the three specifications that set the topic, because the codes are what a department checks. Nothing on any sheet is reproduced from a past paper, a mark scheme, an examiner report or a specification, and Empower Educators is not affiliated with any awarding body.
Is it really only one page?
One page. That is the format, not a limitation: a mat that runs to two sheets stops being a mat. The selection is the work: what earns a place on the page is what a top-band answer turns on, and the preview is watermarked precisely because a clean single page is the whole product.
