Year 10 is the organism — how a living thing is built, powered, supplied, defended and controlled. Year 11 takes the population. That division is why cell biology opens the book and ecology does not appear in it at all.

Board-neutral, with one limit stated rather than buried: the content, the Foundation and Higher split, the mathematical skills and the apparatus and techniques are national. The named required practicals are set by each awarding organisation, so this book teaches the techniques those practicals are built from and names the apparatus criteria each unit meets.
