A Level Science: how each board marks it

AQA — a separate book for each

The assessment objectives below are worded almost identically whichever board you teach. What differs is the weight each one carries, and that is what decides where a department spends its time. Each book quotes its own board's specification word for word, and opens at its first fifteen pages here.

The assessment objectives

  1. AO1 Knowledge
  2. AO2 Application
  3. AO3 Analysis

Read off the A Level Science specification. The weightings, the mark scheme levels and what separates a middle answer from a top one are set out board by board inside each book.

A Level Science — AQA

AQA only — AQA A-level Biology (7402), Chemistry (7405) and Physics (7408). An examination manual for an A-level science department, covering Biology, Chemistry and Physics. It is about how the three qualifications are assessed and how students gain marks, not how to teach the content. The three sciences share one set of assessment objectives and weight them differently, so most pages here have

  1. AO1 Knowledge
  2. AO2 Application
  3. AO3 Analysis

AQA A-level Biology (7402), Chemistry (7405) and Physics (7408) · 25 pages, 19 sections · For teachers, heads of department and SLT — not a student revision guide
