Cover of Year 10 Business Knowledge Organisers

Two A4 pages per unit, in the scheme of work’s own teaching order. Page one is the unit: the vocabulary a pupil must define, the facts they must hold, and one diagram — the same figure the scheme teaches that unit from. Page two is the exam: what they must be able to do, how the answer is built, the misconceptions that cost marks with the reason each one is believed, and the questions this class gets wrong.

How the answer is built changes shape with the unit, because business asks for two different things. Where a unit turns on one function’s decision — marketing, operations, people — the box sets out the whole chain of consequences, link by link, because the mark is for following a decision into the other functions rather than stopping at the first effect. Where a unit asks for a judgement — a start-up, an ownership form, a source of finance — it gives the moves in order and the one that weak answers leave out: the condition that would change the decision.

Where this class gets it wrong is the scheme’s own hinge questions, word for word: the question, the answer that looks right, and what the question is actually testing. Every one the scheme sets for the unit is on the sheet.

Board-neutral throughout. Nothing is written to one exam board’s specification. The content traces to the Department for Education’s GCSE subject content for business, which every awarding body has to cover. Across the two years, each of its areas — business activity, influences on business, operations, finance, marketing and human resources — has a unit of its own.
