Pearson Edexcel A Level Psychology
Assessment Objectives
Pearson Edexcel 9PS0. Three papers of different lengths and marks — 2h15, 2h15 and 2h — weighted 35% / 35% / 30%. Paper 3 teaches nothing new: it is built entirely from research methods and the classic studies already met in Papers 1 and 2, re-examined through issues and debates.

The papers, and where the weight sitsThree papers of different lengths and marks (2 hours 15 minutes, 2 hours 15 minutes and 2 hours), weighted 35%, 35% and 30%. The third paper adds no new topics: it is research methods, named classic studies, and issues and debates.

A working manual for an A-Level psychology department teaching Pearson Edexcel 9PS0, written to the specification and checked against it before release.
Pearson's choice sits entirely in Paper 2: clinical psychology is compulsory for everyone, and one option is chosen from three named topics — criminological psychology, child psychology or health psychology. Papers 1 and 3 carry no departmental choice at all, which Part One states before anything else.
Part Two is built around issues and debates. GCSE names two debates; Pearson's A-Level list has eleven, set out in section 9.3 and examined in Section E of Paper 1 and Section C of Paper 3, and the book prints them in Pearson's own words, with the trap in each. Paper 3 is synoptic by Pearson's own description: its content is the material already taught for Papers 1 and 2, re-examined rather than extended, so a department that revises it by reteaching topics is revising the wrong thing.
Every claim about this board resolves against Pearson's own specification before the book is built, including the weighting chart, drawn to scale from the same figures printed in the table beneath it.
