Pearson Edexcel GCSE Psychology
Assessment Objectives

Pearson Edexcel 1PS0. Two unequal papers — 1h45/98 marks/55% and 1h20/79 marks/45% — and the only one of the three boards that leaves the Department's optional-topic choice genuinely open: all five named topics appear as live sections of Paper 2, and a department picks which two it teaches.

Cover of Pearson Edexcel GCSE Psychology Assessment Objectives — Exam Preparation

A working manual for a GCSE psychology department teaching Pearson Edexcel 1PS0, written to the specification and checked against it before release.

Ofqual sets the three objectives and the 35/35/30 split, so those are identical on every board. Pearson's own split is not even — Paper 1 carries more of AO1 and AO3, Paper 2 carries more of AO2 — and it is the only board of the three where the optional-topic decision is a real one: five topics are named, and a department genuinely chooses which two of them it teaches. Part One opens on both of those facts before anything else.

Page two routes by reader: a classroom teacher, someone new to the department, a head of department and a line manager each get a named place to start. Everything after Part One is subject pedagogy that is true whichever board you teach — including which edition of the International Classification of Diseases to teach: the Department's content names none, and neither does Pearson's specification, while ICD-11 came into effect on 1 January 2022.

Every claim about this board resolves against this board's own specification before the book is built, including the command-word glossary — Pearson is the only board of the three that publishes one, in its own Appendix 1, and this edition prints all eleven definitions word for word.
