OCR GCSE Drama Assessment Objectives — Exam Prep

OCR J316 is being withdrawn: the final assessment is Summer 2028 and there is no resit. The written paper is 40% of the GCSE, the devised portfolio and performance are 30% and the text showcase is 30%. The book draws all 200 marks to scale and sets out the rules around the evidence that decide whether marks can be awarded: the contrast rule for the two texts, the concept pro forma, the minimum performance times and the live theatre requirements.

Cover of OCR GCSE Drama (J316) Assessment Objectives — Exam Preparation

A working manual for a GCSE drama department teaching OCR J316, written to the specification and checked against it before release. OCR is withdrawing this qualification, so the book says so early and plans for the two cohorts that still sit it.

Ofqual sets the four objectives and the 20/30/30/20 split, so those are identical on every board. What OCR chose is how the marks are shared. Component 01 or 02, devising, is marked by your own teachers and moderated: a portfolio of 40 marks and a devised performance, or a design realisation, of 20. Component 03, presenting and performing texts, is marked by a visiting examiner: a concept pro forma of 20 marks and a showcase of 40. Component 04 is the written paper, 80 marks in 1 hour 30 minutes. The specification states no total, so Part One draws all 200 marks to scale and labels the total as the book's own sum.

Page two routes by reader: a classroom teacher, someone new to the department, a head of department, a line manager and an exams officer each get a named place to start. The book follows the order in which a department meets the qualification. It sets out the withdrawal in OCR's own words and who still sits the paper, the paper and its mark scheme part by part, what OCR's examiners' and moderators' reports for June 2025 and the two series before it said, the minimum times below which a performance scores nothing, and the places where OCR's documents disagree with each other, with the sources for each.
