Pearson Edexcel GCSE Drama
Assessment Objectives

Pearson Edexcel 1DR0. The written paper is 40% of the GCSE. The portfolio your teachers mark is 30% on its own, three times what the devised performance is worth, and the two performances together are 30%. Raw marks are scaled, so 168 become 240, and the rules around the evidence decide whether any of them can be awarded: the text choice form, the live performance statement, the recordings and the word limit.

Cover of Pearson Edexcel GCSE Drama Assessment Objectives — Exam Preparation

A working manual for a GCSE drama department teaching Pearson Edexcel 1DR0, written to the specification and checked against it before release.

Ofqual sets the four objectives and the 20/30/30/20 split, so those are identical on every board. What Pearson Edexcel chose is how the marks are shared. Component 1, devising, is marked by your own teachers and moderated: a portfolio of 45 marks and a performance of 15. Component 2, performance from text, is marked by Pearson, from a visit or from the recording. Component 3 is the only written paper, in two versions, 3A and 3B. Pearson scales the raw marks of the three components, so Part One draws all 240 scaled marks to scale and shows where a department's year is worth most.

Page two routes by reader: a classroom teacher, someone new to the department, a head of department, a line manager and an exams officer each get a named place to start. The book follows the order in which a department meets the qualification. It sets out what changed in the August 2025 specification, the paper and its mark scheme part by part, what Pearson's own Summer 2025 reports said about each of the six portfolio questions and about Paper 3, the penalty tables for a performance that runs short, and the places where Pearson's documents disagree with each other about who chooses the moderation sample, when Component 2 paperwork is due, and what counts as a sung-through musical, with the sources for each.
