The session opens by refusing the question it is named after. The things a room most often takes as evidence of learning (pupils busy, engaged, quiet, the content covered) are poor proxies for it, and saying so on the third slide is what makes the rest credible to a staff who have sat through this topic before.
What follows is five habits, taken one at a time with a worked example and a common mistake each: set the room · make it clear · check the thinking · respond in the moment · make learning matter. Nothing in the hour names a subject, a key stage or a framework, so a primary teacher, a PE teacher and a languages teacher can all use it the same morning.
