Cover of Becoming an Outstanding Classroom Practitioner — Slide deck

Five habits, one hour, and no claim that there is a single outstanding lesson.

The session opens by refusing the question it is named after. The things a room most often takes as evidence of learning — pupils busy, engaged, quiet, the content covered — are poor proxies for it, and saying so on the third slide is what makes the rest credible to a staff who have sat through this topic before.

What follows is five habits, taken one at a time with a worked example and a common mistake each: **set the room · make it clear · check the thinking · respond in the moment · make learning matter**. Nothing in the hour names a subject, a key stage or a framework, so a primary teacher, a PE teacher and a languages teacher can all use it the same morning.

The session is two files. The **slide deck** is what the room watches. The **facilitator pack** is what the person at the front holds: a run sheet with what to say, what to ask and what to drop if you started late, the handout, twelve rehearsal cards, a three-week walk log and the follow-up. One is no use without the other, and neither needs anything made.
